FY13 PROPOSED SCHOOL DEPARTMENT BUDGET DETAIL
The development of the school department budget is a year long process.  Throughout the fall, Principals and staff meet, as well as PSO and School Council members gather input regarding building needs.  This past November, individual building budgets were presented to central office administration.  On January 4th and January 18th the budget was presented to the School Committee.  Our goal is to maintain and build upon the overall strength of our school system while recognizing continued local and state wide challenges.  We have put forth a proposed budget request for FY13 that not only maintains the current level of services but also moves us closer to our district goals.

FY13 SCHOOL BUDGET CALENDAR AND PROCESS

We have begun the process of budgeting for the FY13 school year.  Below is our budget calendar that was approved by the School Committee at their September 14th meeting.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact David DeGennaro, School Business Manager, at 781-383-6108.

September 14, 2011    School Committee adopts budget calendar.
 
September 23              Budget preparation materials distributed to Principals.
 
October 5                    Budget sub-committee budget review, 6:00pm to 7:00pm.  
 
October 14                 
Principals submit Technology requests to Technology Director.
Principals submit special building maintenance and capital requests to Business Manager.
 
October 21                 
Elementary Principals, Athletic Director, Curriculum Director, and Director of StudenT Services submit budget Requests (excluding out of district tuitions and transportation) tO Business Manager.
 
October 28                 
Secondary Principals, Technology Director submit budgets to Business Manager. Director of Student Services submits out of district tuition and transportation budget requests.
 
Oct 31- Nov 4            
Superintendent and Business Manager review budget requests w/Principals and Directors.
 
November 18             
Superintendent and Business Manager meet w/Principals and Directors to discuss preliminary FY2013 budget.
 
November 30              Superintendent reviews preliminary budget.
 
Nov 30-Dec 9             Central Office staff prepares FY2013 budget materials.
 
December 21              
Superintendent presents overview of proposed FY2013 Operating Budget to School Committee.
 
January 4, 2012          
School Committee budget sub-committee meeting – line item presentation.
 
January 19                  
School Committee budget sub-committee meeting – if necessary
 
TBD                            Budget summit with the Town.
 
February 1                  
School Committee budget sub-committee meeting – if necessary.
 
TBD                           
School Committee presents budget to joint meeting of Selectmen and Advisory Committee.
 
March 7                       School Committee public hearing on budget
 
March 7                      
School Committee votes final adoption of budget and certifies budget figure.
 
March 7-16                 
Central Office staff prepares Town Meeting budget materials.
 
March 19                     Budget document ready for distribution.

FY12 TOWN APPROPRIATED SCHOOL BUDGET DETAIL
The FY12 town appropriated School Budget Detail was voted at town meeting on Saturday, April 30,2011.  We are most appreciative of the continued financial support from the Cohasset community.  As you know our students are the future of our community.  We hope to partner with you to meet the educational goals of the Cohasset community as we accomplish our mission together to "continue the commitment to excellence."
